My name is Skylar (“Sky”) Manning, and I’m a professional contract pilot, former medevac pilot, proud owner of a 2004 Piper Arrow, and avid writer about all things aviation. Whether you’re a student, hobbyist, professional, or just dropping in to check it out, I’d like to welcome you to my little corner of the web.

If you haven’t started your aviation journey yet, I highly recommend you head over to the Learn to Fly tab and click “Start Here”–  I’ve written several articles covering the most commonly requested information… how to choose a flight training provider or instructor, various costs, how to obtain a medical certificate, information about written exams, and what to expect every step of the way– from arriving at your very first lesson, to your final checkride– not to mention, all the things that I wish I knew when I was first starting this journey… made entirely uncomplicated, all in one place.

If you’re a student pilot with your nose to the flight school grind, an early career professional just now discovering the delights of interesting weather and grumpy captains, or a general aviation owner/enthusiast who has a question… don’t be shy! Drop me a line via the Contact page (or via DM on Instagram,) and I may just select your note for publication in my weekly Hangar Talk column– under an alias of course!

Whenever I’m not flying (or writing about the industry in the Captain’s Corner,) I love exploring new places with my better half, family, and friends… as well as outdoor adventure travel, all kinds of cycling, (whether it be road, urban, or mountain biking,) and of course… being generally atrocious at golf.
